Barcelona and Brazil striker, Neymar Jnr has lent his
voice to the controversy surrounding the incident that saw Cristiano
Ronaldo assaulting two players in the La Liga match between Real Madrid
and Cordoba on Saturday, January 24, 2015.
The former Santos player, who first sympathised
with the World Player of the Year because he feels forwards can be provoked,
still wants a punishment for the retaliation despite Ronaldo’s apology.
Speaking about the issue at a press conference in
Spain, the Brazilian said:
“Those of us playing as forwards are exposed to
provocations and intimidation and sometimes you lose your nerve. It’s
clear we cannot do that under any circumstances. He must be punished because of
the aggression. It is difficult because sometimes there is provocation.”
Meanwhile, despite Cristiano Ronaldo’s apology
for his violent attack on the two opposing players, the Portugal captain has
been handed a 3-match ban that will see him miss his club’s clashes against
Real Sociedad, Atletico Madrid and Sevilla.
