KKD'S RAPE CASE ADJOURNS TILL JAN 22 FOR HIGH COURT DECISION

The District Magistrate Court has adjourned till January 22, 2015 the alleged rape case involving ace broadcaster Kwasi Kyei Darkwa (KKD).

According to the court, since the defense lawyers have filed for bail at the Human Rights High Court, it will be prudent to wait for the outcome to determine the fate of the case in its jurisdiction.
The High Court has fixed January 14 to hear the bail application.

KKD is standing trial for allegedly raping a 19-year-old girl Ewuraffe Orleans Thompson in a washroom at the Africa Regent Hotel.

He has admitted having sex with the student, but maintains it is untrue the act was non-consensual.
He first made a court appearance at a Magistrate Court in Accra, Tuesday December 30, 2014 following his arrest and detention.

Rape, according to Ghana’s laws, is a non-bailable offence and convicted rapists risk between five and 25 years in prison.
