More often than not, one of the issues that go
against the music industry in the country, is the issue of plagiarism. Recently,
gospel musician Diana Asamoah and her record label, Frimprince music found
themselves in a tussle with Uncle Fii (Abepe show) who accused the former of
stealing lyrics of his song for her latest smash; Anopa Wim.
DIANA AND FRIMPRINCE FIRE - YOU CAN GO TO COURT
Speaking to Feeling Daddy on the show Penpenaa which
airs every Saturday between 1pm and 3pm on Spice 91.9, Diana Asamoah’s
producer-cum-manager, Mr. Anane Frimpong of Frimprince Music production, the
sensational singer has not committed such infringement and, for that matter,
was ready to justify herself “even before the laws of the country.”
In his explanation, Diana does not usually write songs, all her songs are either written for her or taken from church hymnals. He said that, the latest album has 18 songs on it, 17 including the song in question were given to them by the Music Committee of the Church of Pentecost and the other one from the Methodist hymnal.

He said that, the latest album has 18 songs on it, 17 including the song in question were given to them by the Music Committee of the Church of Pentecost and the other one from the Methodist hymnal.
He indicated that the song Uncle
Fii is claiming ownership of is found in the Pentecost hymn book, number 181
and credited to a woman by name Eunice Johnson who authored it in 1960.
He added that “the Pentecost
Music Committee even directed Evangelist as to how to sing the song. So she
even rehearsed the song to the Music committee for so many times until they got
satisfied, before allowing her to finalize it in the studio and can’t fathom
why Uncle Fii would come out of the woodwork to claim ownership.
UNCLE FII (ABEPE SHOW) FIRES BACK - PROVE YOUR WORTH IN COURT
In a quick rebuttal, Uncle
Fiifi aka Abepe Show reinforced the fact the song is his and that the Pentecost
Church can’t give out what does not belong to it.
“The strategy Frimprince wants to use is
funny, I know all his plans. From what I know, if someone steals your work and
he says it was given to him/her by someone, let them say the same thing when
they get to the law court or the police station. I can see he’s trying to mock
me, but I assure him that we shall meet at wherever we have to meet and he will
see.” He said in a calm voice.
Abepe Show added that
he is not afraid of the Church of Pentecost, so Frimprince should stop using
them as a shield. Interestingly, he claims he is rather suing Diana Asamoah and
Frimprince not the Pentecost Church.
CHURCH OF PENTECOST CONFIRMS - THE SONG IS OURS AND WE GAVE IT TO DIANA
In reaffirming that the
song was indeed given out to Diana by the Pentecost church, Ike the spokes person of Apostle Ango (Head of
Pentecost, Tema Area), the Apostle who gave the green light to Daina, Apostle
Ango confirmed that the song was authored in 1960 by Eunice Johnson, therefore
it is registered, and they didn’t sell it to Frimprince, hence if Abepe show is
claiming ownership of the song, he should provide evidence of his claims in
Court.
