A man who handed his CV into a
supermarket looking for a job was caught shoplifting on the way out, a court
heard.
Luke Scott, 29, walked into the branch of Asda
and gave his resume to staff.
But as he wandered out he picked up an
electric shaver and hid it under his coat, South Tyneside Magistrates' Court
was told.
Prosecutor Paul Anderson said: "He
said he had gone to the job centre at about 10am and then went to Asda with a
copy of his CV, which he handed over to a security officer.
"But he took the electric shaver while in
the store."
He was stopped in the store on December 9 and
found in possession of other items that were found to be stolen from other
stores.
Scott admitted to officers that he had taken
the goods during previous raids at the South Shields Asda and other shops in
the region.
In a week-long thieving spree, the
job-seeker had stolen eight candles, knives, handwash, aftershave and
chocolates.
Geoffrey Forrester, defending, sought
credit for Scott's immediate admission of guilt and highlighted the
unsophisticated nature of the crime.
Mr Forrester said: "He has no previous
convictions at all. He was caught red-handed and admitted to police that he had
stolen goods from the other stores.
"He is entitled to full credit for that.
There was no sophistication at all."
Scott has been given bail until
sentencing on February 4 with the condition he does not enter the three stores
where the thefts took place.
